FAQ

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about nuclear energy in Serbia and the NuclearSerbia platform.

Nuclear Serbia is a strategic digital platform dedicated to nuclear energy development in Serbia and the Central and Eastern European region. The platform brings together expert opinions, analytical reports, current news and educational resources in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. The project was created by NUCON and CONSILIO to promote informed public dialogue about nuclear energy.

The platform publishes news from leading global nuclear industry sources: World Nuclear News (WNN), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), EU Alive, Nuklearna Perspektiva, as well as materials about Paks II projects in Hungary and ASE in Russia. All news is automatically translated into three languages — Russian, English and Serbian — for maximum audience reach.

The "Opinions" section contains expert analytical reports prepared by specialists from NUCON and CONSILIO. Here you will find in-depth analysis on topics such as Serbia's nuclear industry revival strategy, assessment of global vendors' proposals for NPP construction, analysis of institutional foundations of the national nuclear program, reactor site selection, and human resource development. All reports are available for download in three languages.

In November 2024, Serbia lifted the 35-year moratorium on nuclear energy development. The country is actively considering options for building NPP capacity up to 1200 MW based on small modular reactors (SMR) and large Generation 3+ reactors. Negotiations are underway with international partners from France, Russia and South Korea. Key sites — Kostolac and Obrenovac — are being considered under the "Coal-to-Nuclear" concept for repurposing coal power plants.
