Minister Đedović Handanović with AfD on the development of Serbia's nuclear program.
The Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, spoke today with the Deputy Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) for Europe, Anne Ross Weil, about technical support for Serbia in the field of energy transition, with a special focus on the development of the application of nuclear energy, the press service of this ministry announced

The minister pointed out that Serbia sent a request to AFD for support in the first phase of the nuclear program. This support would include two key segments: the development of professional personnel, that is, training and education for the management of nuclear technologies, and the assessment of the impact on the network, that is, the analysis of the effects of nuclear power plants on the transmission network of Serbia.
“France is a strategic partner of Serbia in the energy sector, with which we have signed important agreements in the field of nuclear energy and critical mineral raw materials. Due to the growth of electricity consumption and the need for decarbonization, Serbia needs new sources of basic energy,” said Đedović Handanović.

The Minister reminded that “Elektroprivreda Française” (EDF) has already completed a preliminary technical study on the peacetime application of nuclear energy in Serbia. Discussions are currently underway on the continuation of that cooperation, which also includes informing public opinion about the application of this technology.
At the meeting, it was agreed that AFD would prepare a special study to support the development of nuclear energy in Serbia, and interest in cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and long-term energy transition planning until 2050 was also expressed.
And we remind you that just a few days ago, the President of Serbia announced the arrival of EDF representatives in Belgrade, but that we had a critical review of the entire process due to what we consider to be a certain inconsistency when it comes to familiarizing the public with the process.
