Projections up to 2050: global nuclear capacities grow by 2.6 times.
Nuclear energy is entering a new phase of expansion, guided by the need for energy security and ambitious climate targets. According to the latest projections, total installed capacities of nuclear power plants worldwide will increase by 2.6 times by 2050 compared to 2024 levels. AzNews reports

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) emphasizes that nuclear energy is becoming an increasingly important component of global efforts to address two parallel challenges: supply stability and climate change. At a time when countries face pressure to drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions while ensuring baseload power, the nuclear sector is once again taking a strategic position.
Technological maturity and new projects
The nuclear sector is currently entering a new phase, relying on more than 70 years of operational experience. Today, nuclear energy accounts for about 10% of the global electricity production, with more than 415 reactors in operation in over 30 countries.
The growth trend is also confirmed by current activity at construction sites around the world: 72 reactors are currently under construction, work is taking place in a total of 16 countries, and the leaders are (as expected) China, India and Russia.
This structural shift in the global energy system suggests that nuclear energy is no longer viewed as transitional, but as a permanent solution for a stable low-carbon future.
