Serbia: Special Nuclear Energy Unit Established; EDF Study Completed
Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović spoke today with Emanuele Giaufret (EEAS) regarding reforms in the energy sector, with a specific focus on the further steps in developing Serbia’s nuclear program

The Minister emphasized that the formation of an inter-ministerial expert group is currently underway. This group will handle the preparatory activities necessary for making an “informed decision” on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Additionally, a dedicated unit has been established within the Ministry specifically to assess the feasibility and justification of the nuclear program’s development.
The ministry’s statement also noted that Serbia has entered a new phase of preparation for nuclear energy utilization. The preliminary technical study, conducted in collaboration with EDF, has been completed. The study included an analysis of the power grid’s readiness to integrate a nuclear power plant, an assessment of available technologies, and an evaluation of potential partners.
However, we are reminding that above-mentioned study is not yet available for public.
