The President of Serbia has called for the acceleration of the deployment of small reactors.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, during an open government session, stated that the country urgently needs to introduce a number of amendments to the legislation to simplify the construction of small modular reactors.
This was reported by the Serbian information portal Nuklearna perspektiva.
The President reminded that Serbia has faced a sharp increase in electricity consumption and a decline in production at the facilities of the state energy company EPS, and this, according to him, requires immediate action.
Serbia has a non-binding framework agreement with the French company EDF, and another round of negotiations will take place in the coming days. At the same time, Serbia is considering other options for the construction of large nuclear power plants or small reactors, the portal notes.
